Georges older brother, Charles also joined up but, before his training could finish, the war ended so he was never sent overseas.
Both George and Charles are recognised on the Carisbrook Roll of Honour.
Georges and Charles grandfather was Carl Friedrich August Schiebler (Shebler) who lived in Melton, where he died in 1908. All of his children, including George's and Charle's father, were born in Melton but by 1915 only uncle, Augustus Charles Rudolph Shebler (1860-1927), remained there as a farmer.
