Launch … And We Are Off …
On November 16, 2015, the Melton Family
History Group welcomed guests to the Melton Library and Learning Hub for the launch
by Brendan O’Connor, Federal Member for Gorton, of Just Another Pair Of Socks.
Guests included Don Nardella, State M.P., the Mayor, Councillor Kathy Majdlik and her fellow councillors, history and genealogical groups from the district, the Presidents of the Melton and the Caroline Springs R.S.L.s, school representatives, and descendants of the World War 1 veterans represented on the cenotaph.
Speeches told of Melton in the years of World War 1, and outlined the trials and tribulations of our veterans – both on the home front and in active service, and then Brendan O’Connor opened the site to the world.
The Melton Family History Group would like to publically thank Brendan O’Connor and Kathy Majdlik for their informative speeches, and Melton R.S.L. President, Ian Lawrey, for his reading of the Ode of Remembrance to conclude the formal proceedings. A huge note of thanks is also given to the staff of the Melton Library and Learning Hub who have given immeasurable support, including with catering and function set up.
